Layoffs have been the norm lately, and one Recruiter is doing the work of many. Amid all the pressuring heavy workloads, Recruiters are finding themselves burned out.
Chances you are already a hopeless, cynical, smoldering A-hole and didn’t even know it.
That’s why it’s important to recognize the early stages of burnout. Tired, bitchy, grumpy, and [...]

Fring It!

Thanks to my mobile provider and my ignorance, I forwarded my regular phone to Google Voice and my carrier was all but happy to charge for each call that went to voice mail and as a text message.
Google Voice people know what I’m talking about here.
As it stands, I am exploring making calls over VOIP/SIP. [...]

Shopping Online While Working

The Shopping Mall is like a Gym for most women. They get a complete workout rushing from sale to sale. Most men can’t even keep up and that’s why they have the food court for us.
Getting to the mall is a nightmare. I quit going to the Mall in 2002. I do it all online now. [...]

Bad Beards And Facial Hair Hiring Trends.

In the 70’s it was quite common to see men with thick bushy chest hair and a sporty moustache. Today, we are clean, shaven, groomed, waxed, and polished to a shiny gleam.
Hiring managers in Corporate America discriminate against men with moustaches and beards. Now I know a lot of you have some facial hair [...]

The Fruit Cake Co-Worker. Punt the Fruit Cake Away!

While your co-workers are home for the holiday eating until they get type 2 diabetes, you’re working overtime.  Why? Because your pass-the-buck- slacker-holiday-sweater-wearing co-workers put in their PTO like totally last year. Now you’re stuck in cold dark office answering a hundred calls.
Plus, since you totally forgot to ask for the PTO in advanced, you’re [...]

Getting Big Green Government Bucks

Every now and then I drive through parts of Atlanta that is a tattered like war zone. Trash, condemned buildings, vacant strip malls, more trash, and lots of road kill (hey, it’s the South). I’ve always wondered if someone will ever come in and fix these places up.
And then I read today….
The Department of Labor: [...]

Dirty Rotten Recruiting Scoundrels

I might piss off a lot of Recruiters here, but who cares.

Recruiters can’t be trusted. Right up there with Car Salesmen and boiler room Stock Brokers, we are some of the slickest back hand dealing corporate raiders in all the land.

We are the group of scoundrels at every convention trying to collect candidates.
We are [...]

Applying Online is a Snore Fest. Boost it with Flex

Your careers web page is a Snore Fest. In fact, if I had insomnia, I would go to your Careers web page and apply online a few times. Boom! I’d be out cold sleeping like a baby and snoring like a big dog.
Seriously,  all corporate career websites are painfully dull and rigamarole to even apply [...]

Get Them a Job! Get Them Out of the House! College Grads

Guys, remember the days of owning a seersucker suit or a pair of faded khakis to interview in? Ladies, remember not having anything to wear for an interview and borrowing clothes? Remember the Croakies that held your Oakley Sun Glasses? Or the tattered baseball cap you wore to cover up your mop?
These days companies [...]

The Snuggie Recruiter

My office is a meat locker year round because my company is trying to save a buck on the heating bill.  We shouldn’t work in sweatshop and we shouldn’t work in Arctic like conditions. But, a lot of businesses had to make changes. Drastic cost cutting measurments have been implemented weekly.
Enough is enough. If we [...]

Recruiting Tattoos

Here is a Recruiting Ad for BBDO.
As we move past through the rough economic times and unemployment, do you as an individual care if you hire someone who is covered in tattoos? Let me ask it this way. If you have two candidates in your lobby waiting to interview and you need to hire one [...]

Protect Your Leftovers with a Fridge Locker

Corporate Recruiters, you know the drill. You come in every morning. You put your tasty leftovers in the break room refrigerator, grab a cup of coffee, and then get to work. But have you ever found that someone has nabbed your leftovers? You worked so hard making that juicy pot roast and looked forward to chowing down, [...]

Free Holiday WiFi in Airports - Gift From Google

This holiday season Google is giving back to the people. In most Airports you will have access to free WiFi thanks to Google. They are paying the service providers at the airports and at the same time promoting Google Checkout for matching charitable donations. You see, Google is the gift that keeps on giving. Thanks [...]

Imagining SourceCon 2010 in Atlanta. Can You Dig It?

SourceCon 2010 represents you, the Recruiter. It represents the hard working Americans fighting in the trenches every day to create a safe, clean, and healthy planet while using the latest in Boolean search string technology. That’s why I am challenging the folks at ERE to embrace my vision of SourceCon 2010.
The stage is your basic [...]
